Video shows white homeowner shooting at black teen asking for directions

Footage from a home security camera has been released showing a man shooting at an unarmed black school student who had stopped at the house to ask for directions.

A jury in Detroit were shown the footage of 53-year-old Jeffrey Zeigler, of Rochester Hills Michigan shooting at 14-year-old Brennan Walker on 12 April.

The shocking video shows Walker approach the house, only to turn around and sprint away as a shirtless Zeigler wielding a gun appears to take aim and shoot at the teen.

Walker wasn’t injured. Oakland County Sheriff’s Office arrested Zeigler on charges including assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according the NBC News.

Zeigler’s wife called the police to report “that a black male was trying to break into her house and her husband chased after him into the yard,” according to the sheriff’s summary.

Speaking to NBC about the incident, Walker says he missed a bus to school, got lost on the way and knocked on their door to ask for directions.

"I knocked on the door, stepped back, knocked, stepped back, and then a lady came downstairs yelling at me," the teen recalled to WDIV in April.

She asked me, 'Why are you trying to break into my house?' and I told her I was just looking for directions to Rochester High.

Zeigler, a retired fireman defended his actions. He said:

There’s a lot more to this story than what is being told and I believe that will all come out in court.

I was in bed yesterday morning when my wife started screaming and crying.

However, Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan K Barnett disagrees, and he was:

Personally sickened by the initial reports and they suggest behaviour completely unacceptable and inconsistent with the character and values of our community.

After his arrest, Zeigler was released on a $50,000 bond and closing arguments at the hearing are set for later today.
