Nevada senator Kelvin Atkinson made a heartwarming proposal to his boyfriend at an event to celebrate the state's decision to overturn its ban on gay marriage this week.

The Democrat had been a strong advocate of overturning the ban and came out publicly last year during a senate debate about the subject.
