Amid the recent timetable fiasco, thousands of passengers using Northern Rail and Govia Thameslink Railway have sat bored and waiting for their train.

But at least designer Robert Scargill had an activity to break up the drudgery on his way to work when he was handed this 'Tory Rail Mayhem' scratch card. How appropriate.

As you probably guessed, the scratch card is a Labour invention - and, if you're not lucky enough to be handed a paper version on your dragged-out commute, you can complete it online.

Spoiler: revealed are harsh reminders of commuter catastrophes from 'standing room only to 'train cancelled'.

People on Twitter thought this was a clever move from Labour.

Transport secretary Chris Grayling recently came under fire after cancelling his appearance at the Northern Transport Summit in Manchester, where he was scheduled to appear on Monday.

A Department for Transport spokesman said:

The secretary of state is not attending the summit as he is in London for the National Policy Statement in Parliament, a hugely significant vote that will benefit the whole country, including the North West.

We recognise the importance of this event, which is why Transport Minister Baroness Sugg will therefore be attending.

Grayling has denied he was responsible for the travel chaos following the botched introduction of new railway timetables, saying "I don't run the railways" on BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

He said an enquiry would examine what went wrong.
