A televangelist has compared US president Donald Trump to Jesus because both were “betrayed and arrested and falsely accused”.

Paula White, who you may remember as the “spiritual adviser” who very passionately prayed for Trump’s re-election, has once again been making assertions about Trump that she claims have come from the “holy spirit” themselves.

At the launch of Trump’s Easter lunch, held at the White House, White told Trump and the audience, “As I prayed, it was like the holy spirit just zoned me in and said, ‘Tell president Trump how thankful you are for him.'” Her remark was met with applause and a standing ovation.

She continued: “Jesus taught us so many lessons through his death, burial and resurrection. He showed us great leadership. Great transformation requires great sacrifice and, Mr. President, no one has paid the price like you have paid the price.

“It almost cost you your life. You were betrayed and arrested and falsely accused. It's a familiar pattern that our Lord and Saviour showed us. But it didn’t end there for him and it didn’t end there for you … Because of his resurrection, you rose up.”

The bizarre scene had some people referencing Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent claim about Iran being run by “religious fanatics”.

“Meanwhile in the US,” someone pointed out.

Someone else claimed (translated from French): “These people are utter morons. And they claim to be fighting against religious fanaticism. They will forever be the shame of this 21st century.”

Another wrote: “Remind me who the religious lunatics are again?”

Mehdi Hasan said: “I feel embarrassed for a lot of Christians in this country.”

Someone else argued: “Just sick to be comparing this man to Jesus. Pure blasphemy.”

“‘It’s not a cult at all. By the way Trump is the literal incarnation of Christ’”, mocked another.

Meanwhile, when Trump addressed the room, he called himself a “king” while talking about Jesus and Palm Sunday.

He said: “On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem as crowds welcomed him with praise, honouring him as king. They call me king now. Can you believe it?”

One disbelieving viewer wrote: “He has managed to make Palm Sunday about himself.”

Another called Trump a “Broken man”.
