Being a parent is often deeply stressful and tiring.

Studies have alleged that having children isn't exactly great for you as an adult - mostly because you'll have virtually no money and get very limited sleep.

Beyond the fatigue and complaining, most people may fail to notice a dramatic change in a parent's appearance but there's now handy photographic evidence to prove that it does.

Mike Juianelle, who runs the Facebook page Dad and Buried has called for mums and dads on Instagram to share before and after parenting pictures on Instagram.

The "before" is their appearance prior to having kids and the "after" obviously being what has happened to them since their offspring were born.

The results were a consistent mix of tired looking people, rarely sporting a smile, completely contrasting with their younger, more radiant selves.

Mike, who has two kids aged seven and two, has reportedly been inundated with images from parents.

This interesting experiment is clearly just a bit of fun, but the results are fascinating.

He told Huffington Post:

I think they show the toll kids take on parents.

Obviously, it’s meant to be lighthearted, and no one is seriously blaming their children for the state of their faces or lives, except for me when I seriously blame my kids for the state of my face and my life, which is basically all I do on my blog and Facebook page and Twitter.

Mike has now shared dozens of "before and after" pictures on his Instagram account and he hopes it can help parents realise that they aren't alone in their struggle.

He added to HuffPost:

My blog and everything else have always been about the fact that it’s okay to be honest about the pitfalls of parenthood.

There’s no shame in admitting that for all the peaks, there are plenty of pits.

Kids are the worst best thing that’s ever happened to us and if we don’t laugh about the havoc they wreak we’d have to cry instead and I’m not a crier.
