Eleven of Barack Obama's best jokes from his last White House Correspondents' Dinner

Barack Obama gave his last White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night.

Obama's presidency will end in January 2017. It's a little while away yet, but this year will fly by, and there'll be a lot of 'lasts' coming up for the charismatic chief.

And if the 44th President of the United States' sterling performance is anything to go by, we'll have a few more laughs yet.

The correspondents' dinner was packed full of the biggest names in American media and politics, with Larry Wilmore of Comedy Central hosting. But Obama was, really, the only person in the room.

Some of Obama's best and barbed jokes were aimed at Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump. The billionaire attended last year's event, but didn't show this time around:

Is this dinner too tacky for the Donald? Is he at home eating a Trump steak, tweeting out insults to Angela Merkel? What is he doing?

Obama then commented on Trump - who used to own the Miss Universe pageant - foreign policy 'expertise':

They say Donald lacks the foreign policy experience to be president. But, in fairness, he has spent years meeting with leaders from around the world — Miss Sweden, Miss Argentina, Miss Azerbaijan.

And then added that Trump’s experience might be useful when closing America's Guantanamo Bay detainment facility.

Trump knows a thing or two about running waterfront properties into the ground.

Here are a few of his other sparkling moments from the dinner:

I love Joe Biden, I really do. I want to thank him for his friendship, his counsel, for always giving it to me straight. For not shooting anybody in the face.

Sorry I was late tonight, I was running on CPT - which stands for: jokes white people should not make.

[To Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders]: You look like a million bucks. Or to put it in terms you'll understand, you look like 37,000 donations of $27 each.

I’ve said how much I admire Hillary [Clinton's] toughness, her policy chops. You got to admit it though, Hillary trying to appeal to young voters is a little like your relative who just signed up for Facebook. 'Dear America, did you get my poke? It didn't appear on your wall. Not sure I’m using this right. Love Aunt Hillary'.

Sitting at the same table is Mike Bloomberg. A combative controversial New York billionaire is leading the GOP primary and it is not you, that has to sting a little bit.

Spotlight is.. a movie about investigative journalists with resources and autonomy to chase down the truth. Best fantasy film since Star Wars.

For months, congressional Republicans have been saying there are things I can’t do in my final year - unfortunately this dinner wasn’t one of them...

Obama joked that he'd bring out Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland at the dinner for an ensuing bloodbath.

We’re going to do this right here, right now. It’s like the Red Wedding.

But it's not just Congress. Even some foreign leaders, they've been looking ahead to the next leader. Last week, Prince George showed up to our meeting in his bathrobe. That was a slap in the face. A clear breech of protocol.

In my final year, my approval ratings keep going up. The last time I was this high, I was trying to decide on my major.

After his speech, Obama did this. We really will miss him.

Here's a compilation of the funniest bits of the evening:

More: An 8-year-old boy wrote an incredible letter to Donald Trump, summed up exactly why he shouldn't be president

More: Donald Trump apparently can't tell the difference between his own words and those of a fascist dictator
