Bieber v Bloom: What you need to know about the most amusing celebrity spat of recent times

Justin Bieber and Orlando Bloom are currently engaged in what has to be one of the most unlikely - and entertaining - celebrity rows yet.

Fine, I’ll bite. What happened?

Things allegedly got physical between the pair on Tuesday night after 37-year-old father-of-one Bloom bumped into Bieber, 20, at Ibiza celeb hangout Ciprani. A source tells the New York Post’s Page Six column Bloom refused to shake Bieber’s hand as he walked past his table. "Then Bieber said something rude to Orlando, like, ‘She was good.'” According to US magazine, Bloom did “not appreciate Bieber's comment, and took a swipe at the singer".

Who is ‘she’?

This is she

That would be Miranda Kerr, Bloom’s 31-year-old ex-wife. According to Page Six, Bieber was seen "getting flirty" with Kerr at a Victoria’s Secret fashion show in 2012, six months before she separated from Bloom. Kerr denied anything untoward at the time. Bloom was subsequently photographed having a cigarette with Bieber’s on-off girlfriend Selena Gomez (although sources close to the 22-year-old have since clarified that incident, leading to the headline 'Gomez: I did not bang Orlando Bloom').

Right.. So did the 'punch' connect?

If you believe this video footage of the incident (via TMZ) then no. As a source helpfully claimed to the Daily Mirror’s 3am column: "Luckily for both of them Justin ducked so his punch missed. Within seconds people intervened and there was some minor pushing and shoving between their entourages." In other words, if anything did happen it sounds about as violent as a playground tussle between primary school children.

So why is this still a thing?

Two words: social media. Shortly after the incident Bieber posted a picture of Kerr in a bikini to his Instagram, which was quickly deleted - although not so quickly the press, and a substantial number of Bieber's 18million+ followers, didn't spot it. Then late last night Bieber uploaded a picture of Bloom appearing to cry, which he has left up.
