George Clooney won’t let wife watch Batman movie because he ‘f***ed it up’ so badly

Actor George Clooney doesn’t want his wife to watch his portrayal of Batman in the movie Batman and Robin - because he ‘f***ed it up’ so badly.

When gothic fantasy horror director Tim Burton brought Batman, the Caped Crusader, to the big screen in Batman and Batman Returns starring Michael Keaton.

The latter film’s gloomy performance, although highly acclaimed, ushered in film director and costume designer Joel Schumacher to make the future of Batman more lighthearted.

While having a completely different appearance, Batman was recast—Val Kilmer wore the cape in the 1995 film Batman Forever and in 1997, George Clooney took on the role in the notorious follow up, Batman and Robin.

It was torn to shreds by reviewers and even received a 16 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Yikes.

Batman and Robin was Clooney’s only time portraying Gotham City’s finest. Thankfully, the actor has been able to poke fun at himself throughout the years, understanding the film’s reputation.

At a screening for The Tender Bar, a coming of age story Clooney directed, he spoke about how he won’t let his wife, Amal Clooney watch the movie.

“There are certain films I just go, ‘I want my wife to have some respect for me,” he told Variety.

He added: “It’s bad when your four-year-old kid goes, ‘This sucks.’ That could be painful.”

Clooney also told People about his experience and how he “f***ed it up.”

‘I did one superhero movie, and I f****d it up so bad they won’t let me near the set… I don’t want to get into all the bat nipples,’ he told the outlet.

Before Ben Affleck took on the role of Batman in the upcoming film, The Flash, Clooney initially advised him not to do it but also to avoid having nipples on his Batman attire.

Clooney has been candid about Batman in the past as well.

In May 2019, he admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he “wasn’t good” in the film.

I wasn’t good in it, and it wasn’t a good film. What I learned from that failure was that I had to rethink how I was working because now I wasn’t just an actor getting a role; I was being held responsible for the film itself,” he told the outlet.

Regardless of the pushback he received for Batman and Robin, Clooney is still revered as one of the most prolific movie stars globally with a career that exceeds over three decades.
