Blink and you'll miss this jet breaking the sound barrier

This video shows a US navy F/A-18C Hornet jet breaking the sound barrier.

The crashing noise you can hear in the video is a sonic boom, caused by the aircraft travelling faster than the 761mph speed of sound. The sound waves created by the aircraft compress and are expressed in an explosive noise.

The footage was uploaded by Military.com and taken on an aircraft carrier, but it is not known when it was taken.
