Broadcasters urged to boycott Brexit Party events after Channel 4 'banned' for reporting on Farage's finances

As the European Parliament Election campaign continues, tensions are reaching fever pitch.

But in between milkshake throwing and dodging, reports have emerged that Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party has banned Channel 4 News from covering Farage’s campaign.

BuzzFeed’s Mark Di Stefano tweeted suggesting that the news channel has been banned after it aired an investigation into Brexit backer Arron Banks and Farage’s finances last week. This followed a tweet from HuffPost UK's Paul Waugh.

Given that one of the core tenets of any democracy should be freedom of the press, many journalists, broadcasters and politicians are calling on other outlets to refuse to cover Farage’s events in solidarity.

Though, rather astonishingly, pro-Brexit Labour MP described the move as “a good idea”.

Which was met with condemnation.

indy100 has reached out to Channel 4 and the Brexit Party for comment.
