The woman who was given £15k by George Michael for IVF has just discovered he was behind the donation

Since the news of George Michael’s death, stories of his generosity have flooded the internet.

Lynette Gillard from Bolton was among the thousands who took to social media to pay tribute to the singer. But the next day, she found out something very surprising.

Gillard had received £15,000 from an anonymous donor in 2008 after her husband at the time spoke about it on the game show Deal or No Deal.

Richard Osman, the programme’s former executive producer, tweeted that Michael called the show the next day to anonymously donate the money for the couple’s treatment:

Others replied to the tweet, with a news story from the time:

Gillard wrote on Facebook, in a post that has now been deleted, that she had always wondered who the mystery donor was.

She also replied to Osman on Twitter:

A spokesman for Deal or No Deal would not confirm whether Ms Gillard’s mystery donation was from Michael, and said: “Anonymous donations are kept private in line with the donor’s wishes."
