A Black woman has called out a doctor’s office allegedly for kicking her out for wearing a T-shirt that read, “I Can’t Breathe”.

The woman, who hasn’t been identified, says she went to Wilson Medical Associates in North Carolina with her grandmother. As they were discussing her grandmother’s care, the doctor asked her to step outside before telling her to leave.

Over Facebook Live, the woman said she was kicked out of the doctor’s office because he claimed her shirt was “insulting.”

She continued:

This is blatant racism. ‘I can’t breathe.’ How is this insulting unless you agree with what happened to George Floyd?

A video posted by Perez Hilton shows that people had been protesting in front of the doctor’s office for several days since the incident.

According to the woman’s aunt who attended the protest, a nurse apologised to her and claimed the doctor was having a “bad day.”

In the video, she explains how appalled she was by the doctor’s behaviour, adding:

It was very upsetting to know that the doctor who I had trusted all this time would act in such an unprofessional way.

George Floyd’s death in police custody was the catalyst for worldwide protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. As an officer was kneeling on his neck, Floyd said that he couldn’t breathe over 20 times.

The phrase “I can’t breathe” is associated with the Black Lives Matter movement, as numerous victims of police brutality including Eric Garner and Elijah McClain uttered the words before their death.

After the woman’s video went viral, people have since flooded Wilson Medical Associates with negative reviews and one star ratings.

One reviewer on Google wrote:

I’m annoyed that there isn’t a zero star option. So a patient’s attire causes her to get rejected of care? I wonder sometimes if doctors even pay attention to the oath that they take to serve as physicians. This place deserves to go bankrupt because obviously it’s not fit to serve the community.

Another was similarly angry over the doctor’s actions:

Clothes shouldn't determine the level of medical care you receive or if you receive medical care at all. That's ridiculous and speaks volumes. I wouldn't trust this office for directions let alone medical treatment.

The numerous negative reviews have drastically brought the office’s rating down on Google.

indy100 contacted Wilson Medical Associates regarding the allegations. They responded that they are "continuing to provide medical care as usual" and declined to comment further.
