There are many lessons to learn from the plight of Julian Assange.

Yet if today has taught us anything, it's that even the internet revolutionary behind Wikileaks is susceptible to being unwittingly immortalised in meme culture.

Earlier today, Assange was arrested after being ejected from the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

The picture evidence is a meme template for the ages.

Many years have passed since Assange first set foot in the Ecuadorian embassy in 2012.

This led some people to believe he might have morphed into a different person entirely, while others suspected it was all an elaborate disguise.

Pop culture references were to be expected.

Others took it as proof that bad deeds take their toll...

While many people were able to relate...

...particularly with regards to Brexit.

Some questioned if the Wikileaks founder's next destination really would be prison.

Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian embassy appear keen to get the stylish studio flat straight back on the market.
