Trump supporters are furious at LeBron James for turning a MAGA hat into a message about Breonna Taylor

LeBron James joined Los Angeles Lakers team members in wearing a Trump hat with a modified message in support of Black Lives Matter.

On Tuesday night – before the team’s opening game of their first-round playoff match against the Portland Trail Blazers – some Lakers members showed up wearing red MAGA hats.

But instead of saying “Make America Great Again”, the latter two words were crossed out and the full message read instead:

Make America arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor.

At the time of writing, the Instagram post has more than 1.4 million likes, in just over 12 hours since the basketball star first posted it.

But not everyone was loving it. Trump supporters were fuming about the hat and responded underneath the photo in disgust. One wrote:

Stick to playing basketball!

While another remarked:

Make sure they take tht “black Lives matter” bs off dem courts..we do not support tht movement (sic)

And a third added:

Your (sic) a puppet for the democrats.

Other Lakers players who wore the hats were Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, Jared Dudley, Quinn Cook, Rajon Rondo, Danny Green and JR Smith.

It’s not the first time LeBron James has spoken out about justice for Breonna Taylor. He said in a press conference last month:

We want the cops arrested who committed that crime. As one of the leaders of this league, I want Taylor's family to know and the state of Kentucky to know… we want justice.

In May, 26-year-old Taylor was shot eight times after Kentucky police reportedly “blindly fired” into the wrong house.

Since then, one of the police officers involved in the incident has since been fired, but the two other officers have not.

A lawsuit filed by the family’s attorney Ben Crump claimed that Taylor and her boyfriend were asleep in the bedroom when police in plain clothes and unmarked vehicles arrived at the house around 12:30am.

Three officers then entered Taylor's home reportedly without knocking and without announcing themselves as police officers.

According to the lawsuit, the Louisville Metro Police Department were at the wrong house.

Sam Aguiar, an attorney for Taylor’s family, said “it’s about damn time” all the officers were fired. But he also made it clear that the family wants charges.

He said:

If this wasn’t wanton murder and attempted murder, then I don’t know what the hell would be,

We expect and demand these charges. Lots of explaining to do if they don’t come.

Since the tragic killing, celebrities have used their platform to call for justice for Taylor.

Beyonce wrote a powerful open letter about it, while Oprah put Taylor on the front cover of her magazine.

Most people praised LeBron James for his latest statement, but there was the inevitable furious backlash from people with different politics...

Just another day in the divided states of America.
