Pete Buttigieg has responded in the best possible way to Donald Trump's latest disparaging comment.
The president was asked about Mayor Pete's chances of becoming president in an interview with Politico and responded: "Alfred E Neuman cannot become president of the United States.”
For those confused, Trump was referring to a fictitious character which functions as a mascot for Mad, an American satirical magazine which hit peak relevance in the 1950s and 60s.
When asked about the president's jibe, Buttigieg seemed amused and used the opportunity to throw some subtle shade at Trump, who is the oldest person to hold the office.
"I'll be honest, I had to google that," said 38-year-old Buttigieg. "I guess it's a generational thing – I didn't get the reference."
He went on to say that although he found the comparison "kind of funny", it also seemed somewhat inappropriate.
"He's [...] the president of the United States and I'm surprised he's not spending more time trying to salvage this China deal," he said, pivoting perfectly back to the issues.
People are loving the Buttigieg clapback, especially considering he has previously said that the president's name-calling wasn't worth engaging with.
