Prince Edward's enthusiasm for cutting a cake has the internet in hysterics

If there’s royal protocol about the proper way to cut a cake, it seems Prince Edward has zero disregard for it.

In a video shared by the royal family on Twitter, Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son is tasked with cutting a cake at the Lakeland Community Care Centre in Northern Island to celebrate the centre’s 25th anniversary.

But rather than slice into the cake as one would expect, Prince Edward counts down: “Ready? One, two, three, go!” before stabbing the cake directly in the centre.

With enthusiasm, the royal then hacks at the cake from a diagonal, a cutting technique that has left the internet equally amused and bewildered.

Understandably, the video has already been viewed more than 61,000 times.

Here are some of the best reactions to the Earl of Wessex’s cake-cutting.

"This is a man who has never cut cake before," one person wrote.

Another said: "He is amazing and needs more engagements."

However, as some as pointed out, Prince Edward's cake-cutting is not the most amusing of his public engagements, as the royal's plaque unveiling in 2018 takes the cake. Watch it below.
