A video of a man killing a large wolf spider in cold blood has gone massively viral, because the spider in question was carrying hundreds of her unborn babies.

YouTube user Danny Ford wrote that he "got a bit of a surprise when I squashed it with a broom", as hundreds of baby spiders came crawling out of the mother.

"Jesus, look at all the babies," a male voice is heard in the video, filmed in Hallett Cove, South Australia.

Female wolf spiders are something of a rarity in the animal kingdom as they carry their egg sacs in spinnerets at the end of their abdomens.

RIP wolf spider.
