Remember Ukip, the purple earthquake that changed the UK's political future forever in the last general election?

Yeah, us neither. Saying that, one member of the party is still up to the old tricks Ukip became famous for.

Steve Latham, who is standing for Ukip in the Newton ward during the Sandwell council byelection on 9 July, made some shocking remarks on his Facebook account in which he compared interracial marriage to genocide:

We face Europe’s fusion with the third world. The interracial marriage produces each year thousands of young people of mixed race... The servants of globalisation are trying to convince us that to deny our identity is a progressive and humanitarian act, because they want us all to be blind consumers.

It is necessary, now more than ever, to counter the lies of the system, to awaken the revolutionary spirit of the Europeans. Everyone must see this truth, that European integration amounts to genocide. We have no other option, the alternative is national suicide.

The remarks got the council candidate fired from his job as a driver with National Express, the Guardian reports.

Latham stood for parliament in West Bromwich East last month and is reported to have called Islam an 'evil cult' on Facebook in the past.

Ukip have not stated whether Latham will still run as a candidate in the byelection, which is less than two weeks away.

i100.co.uk reached out to both Latham and Ukip for comment but neither responded immediately.
