Has Curiosity found a ball on Mars? No, but, you know...

Curiosity, the Mars rover, has been beaming back images of suspiciously shaped rocks for almost two years.

After capturing a Martian squirrel and an almost perfect replica set of traffic lights, Curiosity has now taken a picture of what seems to be an almost perfectly round ball.

The photo, uploaded to the mission’s photo archive on September 11, shows the sphere sitting smugly on a rocky outcrop.

But as the Washington Post helpfully explains, this is just another sedimentary rock formed when Mars had water and is much smaller than it looks in the picture, at around a centimetre across.

Conspiracy theorists will have to keep waiting.
