Rick and Morty's third season opener, which was available to stream for a brief period of time in April, contained references to a discontinued condiment from McDonald's.
'Szechuan' sauce was a dipping sauce, promotion in 1998 designed to coincide with the release of the Disney movie Mulan.
In this clip, the significance of the Mulan McNugget sauce is explained:
SPOILERS
According to Justin Roiland, the voice of Rick, and one of the shows' creators, the Szechuan sauce was sent to them by McDonalds.
The box is addressed to C-1998M.
For those unversed in the show's universe(s), the home dimension of Rick and Morty is number C-137.
The C-1998 is a reference to Mulan and its release year 1998, something confirmed by the accompanying note from McDonald's.
Dimension C-1998M is a dimension where it's always 1998.
1998 every day.
No smartphones, no social media.
It's a weird scary place.
But they've got  Szechuan Sauce on the regular menu.
The note also stated that other bottles of the sauce would be able to experience the 'glory' or the sauce, but that the first bottle was for the show's creators.
Previously the word Nintendo has been used repeatedly, and explicitly in attempt for the company to send Rick & Morty's creators Nintendo products at no charge.
While this is most certainly a PR stunt, it's still a stunt which pleases fandom with is in depth knowledge.
Wubba lubba dub dub.
