Because we need a nice story like this

More than £2,500 has been raised in one day for Kai, the dog found abandoned with all of his belongings at a railway station last week.

Kai, a shar-pei, was found tied to a railing in Ayr station on Friday. The Scottish SPCA was able to find his name because he is micro-chipped, but his former owner said he had sold Kai via Gumtree two years ago and was not aware of the address of his new owner.

The charity set up a JustGiving page for Kai on Wednesday afternoon after members of the public got in touch to ask how they could help him.

We have been inundated with lovely messages for Kai and offers of new homes from animal lovers around the world touched by this very sad story. Many people have also asked how they can donate and help us care for Kai, who needs an operation on his eyes.

Following the donations, the charity told ITV it had "never had a response quite like this".
