Chameleon tongues are disgustingly glorious

The fact that many species of chameleon can change colour to suit their surroundings is widely known, but what is less recognised is just how freakishly cool their tongues are. Really.

This disgusting power of the natural world is best shown in super-slow motion, courtesy of the team at Earth Unplugged.

They filmed a panther chameleon unfurling its tongue at an unfortunate cricket at 1,500 frames a second.
