Well, the eclipse was underwhelming

For many across the UK, Friday morning was the same as almost any other: cloud. Astronomers told us there was going to be a near-total eclipse of the Sun, the only hint of which was that it was a bit dark for a while.

Many, many people headed outside, with solar goggles, pinhole cameras and colanders in tow; only to be sorely disappointed:
