Queen’s Guard honour Aretha Franklin in Respect tribute outside Buckingham Palace

The world is still reeling after the loss of one of the most talented and iconic singers of the century, Aretha Franklin, who died at August 16 at the age of 76.

Franklin's funeral took place in Detroit on Friday, but before that, guards at Buckingham Palace decided to show their respect to the musician.

The Band of the Welsh Guards played one of her most famous songs, Respect, to surprised onlookers.

Stationed outside the queen's residence, they usually play music during the changing of the guard. This time they switched it up, much to the delight of many.

James Corden took to Twitter to praise the performance.

Others praised the performance, too.

The band wrote a message on their Facebook page:

In the Army Respect for others underpins all that we do, so there was only one tune that would do for today's ceremony: the 1967 Aretha Franklin hit R.E.S.P.E.C.T. a declaration from a strong confident woman who knows that she has everything.

She was 'a huge influence and inspiration to our musicians,' they added.

People called it a lovely tribute to the late Queen of Soul.
