Chris Brown says Australia should give him a visa so he can educate people about domestic violence

Chris Brown was denied an Australian visa last week on 'character grounds'.

But rather than accept he was refused entry because he was found guilty of assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, in 2009, the singer has posted a series of tweets to express he found the decision unfair.

I would be more than grateful to come to Australia to raise awareness about domestic violence... My life mistakes should be a wake up call for everyone.

Brown's world tour was supposed to take him to Australia in December.

The singer now has 28 days to present a case if he formally appeals the decision, but the Australian government seems intent on reminding him that actions have consequences.

Last week, the Minister for Women Michaelia Cash said:

My strong recommendation would be: If you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel the world, there are going to be countries that say to you: ‘You cannot come in because you are not of the character that we expect in Australia.’

Although Brown has played shows in Australia twice since 2009, the government has recently taken a harsher stance towards performers with domestic abuse convictions: earlier this year boxer Floyd Mayweather was also refused entry on similar grounds.
