Kanye West's return to Twitter has been strange and not without incident.

Last week the internationally acclaimed rapper praised a member of the alt-right for speaking her mind.

Then he entered into a bizarre friendship with President Donald Trump and it understandably made a lot of people upset.

Since then West has been reeling it back in slightly by admitting that he hasn't done much research into American conservatives and has been promoting some new music.

He also appears to have remained friends with fellow musician John Legend who had questioned some of West's recent tweets.

However, the bigger picture here is that the comments on West's Twitter account have now become a hive for right-wing commentators and rhetoric.

In an apparent attempt to appease some of his more left-wing fans - or perhaps a genuine show of admiration - West tweeted a picture of Parkland shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez calling her 'my hero.'

Since the Parkland tragedy on 14 February, Gonzalez has been one of the most vocal critics of America's gun laws and the National Rifle Association (NRA) and has subsequently built up a large following and support.

She has also been vilified by members of the American right and gun proponents who feel that she and her fellow activists are attempting to take away the second amendment.

The tweet attracted a few critics who were unhappy with his support for the survivor.

Gonzalez replied with a heroic statement of her own.

And Shaw replied...

For those unaware, James Shaw Jr. is the hero of a shooting at a Waffle House restaurant in Antioch, Tennessee on April 22.

The 29-year-old confronted the gunman, who had already opened fire, and managed to wrestle a rifle from his grip, potentially saving the lives of many of the patrons in the restaurant as a result.

Sadly, four people died during the incident but a GoFundMe page has been launched to help the victims' families and has already raised over $200,000, while CNN reports that the restaurant will donate of its proceeds for the next month to the same cause.
