Kanye West has praised a woman who once referred to the Democratic party as an “ideological slave ship” and hailed Donald Trump’s presidency as a “return to individualism”.
The rapper, whose return to Twitter has already caused a few waves on the internet, wrote that he loved the way Candace Owens thought.
And then shortly after, he tweeted:
Owens caught wind of it and quickly responded to Yeezy, asking to meet.
Trump supporters and conservatives loved his sentiments.
Others… not so much.
Even Perez Hilton was like nah.
One person even brought up the Jay Z beef.
Owens took offence to being called a member of the alt-right, and insisted she's a 'free thinker'.
As a result of West’s seeming patronage, clips of Owens have gotten a new lease for life. She once told students at UCLA that there is an “ideological civil war” happening in the black community.
[Between] black people that are focused on their past and shouting about slavery and black people that are focused on their futures.
What you can see happening is victim mentality versus victor mentality.
Victim mentality is not cool. I don’t know why people like being oppressed. It’s the weirdest thing I have ever heard. ‘I love oppression, we’re oppressed, 400 years of slavery, Jim Crow’ – which by the way none of you have lived through, your grandparents did – and it’s embarrassing that you utilise their history. You’re not living through anything right now. You’re overly privileged Americans.
