The government's health secretary Matt Hancock has been left red-faced after being caught eating a stroopwafel before appearing live on Good Morning Britain.

The 40-year-old, who assumed office in July 2018 was appearing on the ITV show on Monday morning but it transpired that his breakfast wasn't that healthy at all.

Prior to going live, he consumed a banana, which is a nice and healthy way to start the day but then he followed it up with a caramel waffle, which he claimed was for 'energy' but isn't that great a snack for that time of day.

Good Morning Britain captured Hancock's embarrassing moment and hosts, Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid were not going to let him live it down pointing out that the waffle contains 356 calories and 16.2 grams of fat.

If you like a caramel waffle, have a caramel waffle, just don't have too many and do a bit of exercise.

I love life, but I love my waffles.

To be honest we can't disagree with Hancock's line of thinking on this issue as we should be free to enjoy what he likes but he'll probably keep his waffle eating privately in the future.

That being said, the clip has already been viewed over 22,000 times and people think that it is hilarious.

Hancock clearly saw the funny side of it, responding with a joke about 'waffle in politics' on Twitter.
