If online trolls were actual trolls then Twitter is the rundown, broken bridge they all hide under.

These days most of us might even prefer the presence of Tolkein-esque trolls over the ones who hide behind computer screens to hurl violent and hurtful comments.

Scarlett Moffatt, who is no stranger to the limelight, recently received body-shaming comments online after she appeared on ITV2's Aftersun on Sunday night.

In a series of tweets, she's admitted it's "hard to pretend" she's okay after facing a slew of online abuse.

The tweets made reference to how she was "constantly being attacked" because of her size and appearance.

The comments that she got from "grown adults" resulted in her crying her eyes out, she said on Twitter.

A lot of people did come out in support of her, former Love Island contestant Olivia Buckland shared that she had received similar treatment from trolls.

Love Island presenter Caroline Flack also threw in her support of Scarlett, saying: "You were BRILLIANT tonight. And lovely to chat after'."

Last week Moffatt, who has spoken out against cyber bullying and trolls in the past, posted this picture to Instagram about "blocking out the haters".
