World Cup 2018: How the internet reacted to Germany's shocking elimination

Have your heard? Fußball kommtnach Hause!

OK let's not get carried away (at least from an England perspective).

There are still a lot of very good teams left in the World Cup but everyone's chances of winning the big one were dramatically improved yesterday after reigning World champions Germany unceremoniously crashed out of the competition.

Joachim Low's side was a shadow of their former selves in Russia winning only one match and losing to both Mexico and South Korea respectively.

Yesterday's 2-0 loss to the South Korean's was the final nail in the coffin for Das Mannschaft who finished bottom of their group, making them the third consecutive World Cup holders to fall at the first hurdle in their defence.

Now, it's not fun to mock any team or group of supporters but Germany are the perennial over-achievers in world football and always seem to win, or at least reach the semi-finals.

With this in mind and considering that they were one of the major favourites, everyone took the opportunity to briefly mock Germany's epic failure and Twitter did not disappoint.

Perhaps the most popular reaction came from FOX Sports Brazil who just tweeted laughter. Remember that Germany thrashed Brazil 7-1 four years ago, so they are entitled to some retribution.

From there everyone from Gary Lineker to PornHub got involved and the jokes just kept on rolling.

Some Brazil fans, reportedly in Lebanon, held a mock funeral for Germany which isn't morbid in the slightest.

The controversial VAR system, which awarded South Korea their first goal was also a prominent subject.

The decision to leave Germany's young winger and Premier League winner Leroy Sane out of the squad also came up.

Such hubris. Such schadenfreude.

At least the official Germany account was humble about the result.

Bear this in mind when England are eliminated from the group stages in Qatar 2022.
