This man interrupted his girlfriend's marathon to propose - and the internet is roasting him for it

A man proposed to his girlfriend while she was in the middle of running her very first marathon, and the internet is very angry.

Kaitlyn Curran was running the New York City marathon on Sunday when her boyfriend Dennis Galvin called her over at the 16-mile mark.

When Curran ran over to say hello, Galvin decided to interrupt his girlfriend’s race – by getting down on one knee to propose.

Galvin’s cousin told CBS News that Curran "cried a little bit, said yes, hugged him and then said 'OK, I have to go finish my race'".

Around the couple, spectators and runners cheered and took photos - but the internet didn't feel the same way.

Some questioned why Galvin couldn’t wait till his girlfriend had crossed the finish line, rather than impact her final time by pausing her mid-race.

But other people saw the bright side of the proposal in bringing together the internet at a divisive time in the run-up to the midterm elections.

Future proposers should take note.
