Alan Rickman speaking on helium will help you remember his amazing sense of humour

Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69.

The London-born actor was a star of stage and screen, appearing in classics such as Die Hard and Sense and Sensibility, cult favourite Galaxy Quest, and the Harry Potter franchise.

He was - and still is - much-loved. Tributes have been pouring in.

Comedian Eddie Izzard wrote:

I do not want my heroes to die! Alan Rickman is dead and he was another hero. Alan - thank you for being with us. We are sorry you had to go.

Rickman was known for his quirky side. His roles were often witty and sharp - and he wasn't afraid of editing the "terrible" Robin Hood script with friends in a branch of Pizza Hut.

For the younger generations, though, he'll probably be remembered best for playing Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films, in which he is iconic.

And even though the character is famous for his dour outlook on life, this appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon from last year in which Rickman tries to talk after inhaling helium proves that Rickman certainly had a sense of humour:
