Police in Jakarta have regained control of the city after a series of bomb and gun attacks that have killed at least seven people.

Isis has reportedly claimed responsibility for the brutal attacks near a UN building and shopping complex in the Indonesian capital through a propaganda channel on Telegram.

Both al-Qaeda and Isis have threatened attacks in Jakarta in recent weeks, and police suspect that Jemaah Islamiyah, a terror group with cells across South-East Asia which pledged allegiance to the Isis in August 2014, is behind the attacks.

Jemaah Islamiyah is responsible for the last major attack in Jakarta, a bombing in 2009 that left seven people dead.

While most of the world has been shocked at the wave of brutality the group has unleashed across its territory in Syria and Iraq, the group has pockets of support across the globe who believe in their warped vision of a new-age caliphate.

There are many self-styled jihadist groups that have pledged support to Isis, which shows the appeal of the Levant-based jihadist group in other regions traditionally dominated by al-Qaeda and local insurgencies.

The fervour with which the group's vision has been embraced shows the power of their propaganda videos and social media outreach.

The map below shows the location of groups which have either fully (or a significant number of members have) declared allegiance to Isis:
