One of the responsibilities that come with being a police officer is occasionally shepherding drunk people home after a night out.

This is a fact every aspiring young copper should know before they sign up.

Such was the case for two cops in Tasmania, who found unexpected fame on the internet when their photo was posted to reddit.

Constables Natalie Siggins and Jeremy Blyth took a selfie after helping a rather overly-refreshed Reece Park into bed after a night out, to remind him of how he got home when he woke up in the morning.

It was then posted to Facebook, and consequently the Australian national subreddit.

And then the r/pics subreddit, r/nottheonion and national news websites picked it up.

Reece wrote on Facebook:

So was just looking through my phone and turns out these good c***s took some banger selfies after they took my drunk ass home.

Bloody legends.

Officer Jeremy told Sunrise:

Sam was a little bit unresponsive, didn’t know where he lived. He wasn’t saying much so we tried to locate where he was.

We were lucky enough to figure out his address.

Constable Siggins said that it was a common occurrence for the police force as:

people’s friends have put them in taxis thinking they’re getting home safe but unfortunately they end up like Reece, asleep in the back seat and unable to get themselves all the way home.

Tasmanian Police later confirmed the incident on Facebook:

Senior Sgt Fox advises:

Make a plan about how you will get home before you have a drink.

Then there’s no risk to you, your family, friends or others on the road.
