The real victims of Boris Johnson’s victory have been revealed and they’re not who you think

If you’re angry at Boris Johnson today, please spare a thought for the real victims of his victory - the poor boys at Eton College.

After Johnson became the 20th ex-Etonian to become prime minister, you might have thought students at the college would be celebrating - but that won’t be the case this year.

Eton students have received a full day of holiday when an Etonian becomes PM in the past, according to journalist Michael Crick, but unfortunately they won’t be able to this time because they’re already off for the summer holidays.

It’s a tragedy…

Even in these divisive times, I think we can all agree that this is the most heartbreaking consequence of a Johnson government.

This also isn’t the first time Crick has brought out this story, as he mentioned it when David Cameron became the 19th Etonian PM back in 2010.

When asked at that time, a spokesperson told Newsnight:

I believe it has been something that has been done in the past.

As far as whether or when we would have a holiday this time, this must be a decision taken by the headmaster and others, and still has to be discussed.

Maybe this year, the boys should be made to come back for an extra day of school to celebrate Johnson’s election.
