In the light of the terror attack on London Bridge and in Borough Market this week, writer for alt-right website Breitbart tweeted that there wouldn't be deadly terror attacks in the UK if Muslims didn't live there.

We suggest she opens a history book. Twitter also suggested that, pointing out a tranch of history in the UK that has nothing to do with Islam.

The best response however came from Andrew Beatty, a White House correspondent for the Agence France-Presse.

In only 129 characters, the journalist put down the alt-right writer for her ignorant remark, referencing the Irish Republican Army, Irish National Liberation Army, Ulster Volunteer Force, Ulster Defence Association and Ulster Freedom Fighters, all groups that were active in Northern Ireland during period of conflict in Northern Ireland known as the troubles.

Between 2000 and 2015 there were 92 deaths in Northern Ireland related to terrorism.

In Europe, less than two per cent of terrorist attacks are conducted in relation to Islam.

In the US the numbers are similar, less than 0.02 per cent of murders are related to Islamist extremism. That's about 1 in 200,000.

Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly titled AFP - Associated Foreign Press. This has been amended.
