A Democratic has used his final plea of Donald Trump's impeachment trial to quote not one of the great American statesmen but Albus Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series.
Rep Jason Crow, who is delivering the case against the president, attempted to convince Republicans that they should not acquit Trump after the trial appeared to have all but collapsed following Republicans decision to vote against having witnesses speak at the trial.
Invoking the headmaster of Hogwarts, Crow said:
Many of us in this room are parents. We all try to teach our kids the important lessons of life. One of those lessons is you won’t always be the strongest, you won’t always be the fastest, and you won’t always win.
It’s in that spirit that hanging in my son’s room is a quote from ‘Harry Potter.' The quote is from Professor Dumbledore, who said, ‘It is our choices that show who we truly are, far more than our abilities.’
Whether this quote will magic the Republicans into changing their minds remains to be seen but the 40 year-old wasn't done there.
Proving his literary know-how, Crow went on to also quote the great writer Maya Angelou, saying:
But what we have clearly shown the last few weeks, and what President Trump has shown us the past few years, is that this promise flows only one way.
As Maya Angelou said, ‘When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.'
As you can imagine, there was a lot of love for Crow's quote, although no word as of yet on what Trump thought of it.

I did not expect Professor Dumbledore to be quoted in the Senate impeachment trial ... but it just happened.— Jonathan Karl (@Jonathan Karl) 1580757711
