Why teenagers posting 'kiss selfies' is big in Japan

In what can only be described as a perfect storm of teenage narcissism and Japanese kitsch, young couples in Japan have started posting selfies of themselves kissing.

Here are a few examples:

Journalist Mari Shibata wrote about the phenomenon for Motherboard, pointing out that although the videos are considered kawaii, a Japanese-specific idea of cuteness, parents have started to catch on to what their kids are doing and many don’t approve.
