The latest royal-adjacent person to critique it is none other than Winston Churchill’s grandson.
Sir Nicholas Soames, who was a Conservative MP until last year, tweeted a brutal take-down of the show.
In addition to years as a politician and his grandfather’s connection to the royal family, Soames was an equerry to Prince Charles.
It’s little surprise then that he was outraged by The Crown’s latest season, which spotlights Princess Diana’s struggle with her marriage, the limelight and her mental health.
In his tweet, Soames wrote:
Just watched an Episode of The Crown.Truly appalled at the deliberate mischief making, lies and meanness, clearly intended to be a vile misrepresentation of The Royal Family.
It’s unclear which episode he’s referring to but, regardless, it’s evident that he didn’t like it.
As if charging the makers of the shoe with “deliberate mischief making” and “meanness” wasn’t enough, he added a hashtag too: #shockingrubbish”. It’s important to remember that The Crown is not a documentary, it’s a drama based loosely on real events and people.
The creator, Peter Morgan, has openly confessed to fictionalising the show and inventing certain scenes.
Nonetheless, we doubt Soames will tune in for the rest of the series.
