The Republicans’ X/Twitter account tried to smear Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and it backfired straight away.

Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has found himself the topic on the lips of Republicans yet again since winning the Democratic primary for US Senate in Michigan earlier this month.

Abdul El-Sayed, who clearly has the GOP rattled, was labelled as “sick” and accused by the Republicans of using Jesus to justify his “radical far left agenda”.

In a post shared to their 3.4 million followers, the official Republican X/Twitter account shared a screenshot from Breitbart (a far-right news and opinion website) accusing Abdul El-Sayed of comparing himself to Jesus.

“Jesus, peace and blessings be upon him, was considered radical in his time too and there is a radical nature to being willing to stand forthright in a time of corruption,” El-Sayed said during a May 2026 appearance on The Progressive Christians podcast when asked about people referring to him as a “radical”.

The Republicans account wrote: “Using Jesus to justify your radical far left agenda is sick.”

But, it didn’t take long at all for people to point out that Republican president Donald Trump recently posted an image depicting himself as Jesus on social media.

“Trump literally posted this just a few months ago,” a Congressman replied.

Another argued: “Maga gleefully mocks Jesus.”

One person asked: “But this is fine with you ain’t it?”

Someone else mocked the excuse Trump gave amid backlash to the post, suggesting he thought it depicted him as a doctor.

They wrote: “What’s wrong? Jesus was just a simple doctor, remember?”
