British soldiers spotted in Washington DC say they are there to 'save the US from Donald Trump'

It's been 232 years since the end of the American war of independence. Since then, Britain has looked on as its former colony grew to becoming the dominant global superpower.

While there have been many advances and innovations created by the United States, there have also been a few times when we have wondered if maybe it's time to get rid of the president and let the Queen have another go:

This week, Independent Journal reporter Benny Johnson was on the streets of Washington, DC, where he bumped into a group of British soldiers (around 750 of whom are based in the US).

Startled by seeing foreign troops on Capitol Hill, Johnson inquired what they were doing there.

One soldier replied:

We saw Donald Trump was about to become President so we thought it was a good time to invade and help you out.
