How an accident inspired these haunting mixed media photographs

Artist Jacob Price uses a mix of techniques - including burning, sanding and ripping - to create these haunting photographs. The 20-year-old artist told i100 he was inspired by a high school accident.

When I was in high school I had an accident where I burned my face badly and was taken out of school for about a month. I had third degree burns on my face under my eyes and on my nose. I was working on photography conceptually for about a year or so before the accident, but when that happened it really sparked my passion.

My mixed media damaged photos are inspired by that accident. Defacing the photos in a way that still makes them beautiful even though they should be technically ugly. You can see images where I hide my face / damage the photo over my face.

I still shoot normal photos (non damaged ones) but damaging photos and using other mediums to create my art is what I am slowly becoming obsessed with.
