Serena Williams was left in tears after she missed her child’s first steps - as she had been training for Wimbledon.

The tennis player, who is considered to be one of the best in the world, posted the following on Twitter:

She took her first steps… I was training and missed it. I cried.

Chrissy Teigen was one of the first people to come to her aid.

Mums online also sent their support.

And other working mums shared their own experiences of missing parts of their childrens' lives

In May, Williams told Harpers Bazaar that she had suffered from post-partum depression.

Honestly, sometimes I still think I have to deal with it. I think people need to talk about it more because it’s almost like the fourth trimester, it’s part of the pregnancy.

I remember one day, I couldn’t find Olympia’s bottle and I got so upset I started crying… because I wanted to be perfect for her.

It's OK, Serena.
