A photographer went to Chernobyl and started turning lights on. The results are haunting

Pripyat is a ghost town in Northern Ukraine at the border with Belarus.

It was founded on 4 February 1970 as a part of the Soviet Union, to serve the nearby Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

It was evacuated on Sunday 27 April 1986, the day after the Chernobyl disaster at Reactor No. 4, which caused large quantities of radioactive materials and airborne isotopes to disperse.

In March 2016, Adam Bojanowski and a team went into Pripyat, to turn on a few streetlights, using neighbouring generators.

They repeated the experiment over time and took images of their efforts, mostly in neon signs.
