Boris Johnson's own father says he'll still go to the pub despite his son telling everyone not to

Yesterday, Boris Johnson and the government changed their approach to the coronavirus pandemic which included "social distancing" and avoiding public spaces including restaurants and pubs.

The advice, although aimed at everyone is especially important to follow if you are over the age of 70, pregnant or have underlining health conditions, as people who fall into those categories can be highly susceptible to the virus.

However, the prime minister's advice is already being ignored by none other than his own father, Stanley who is 79-years-old.

During an appearance on ITV's This Morning, Johnson bragged about how he was going to go to a pub if he had to and that the government's guidelines was only "advice". (Which we very much recommend that you follow, by the way).

When asked by Phillip Schofield if he will "go to the pub" tonight, he said:

Of course, I'll go to a pub if I need to go to a pub.

Schofield replied:

What do you think your son's going to say to that - he's just told you not to?

Johnson answered:

No, he said we should avoid going to pubs, but if I had to go to a pub, I'd go.

A flabbergasted, Venessa Feltz, who was also on the show, interjected:

But nobody has to go to a pub!

Johnson then waffled:

Well, because the people who run pubs need a little bit of people - they don't want people to not be in the pub at all. That's my line.

A clips of Johnson's defiant tone soon made it's way on to social media where people admitted they were shocked to hear what a man of his age was saying.

At the time of writing, there have been 1,543 positive cases of coronavirus in the UK with 55 confirmed deaths. Read the lates COVID-19 guidelines here.
