Stephen Colbert condemns Trump for doing the bare minimum after bomb scares

Following the discovery of the bombs sent to the homes of Barack Obama and Hillary and Bill Clinton, as well as the New York office of CNN, you would expect a strongly worded statement from Donald Trump on Twitter.

After all, it's not like he's ever lost for words on the website. Yet before the president could release his statement, his vice president Mike Pence sent out this tweet condemning the attempted attacks.

That was seemingly good enough for Trump, who replied to the tweet by simply saying "I agree wholeheartedly" and nothing else.

Trump did later deliver a speech calling the citizens of the United States to "unify" and that "acts of political violence" have no place in their country.

In response to this, Stephen Colbert eviscerated Trump's lazy retweet in his opening monologue on Wednesday night's edition of The Late Show.

The 54-year-old comedian said:

First of all, we fact-checked that one and it doesn't work out. You [Trump] have no whole heart and second, you're the president!

There has been an attempted attack on two, two previous presidents today. This is the one time you can't think of your own tweet?

It reminds me of Lincoln's first draft of the Gettysburg address; 'What that first guy said.'
