When Freddie Mercury debuted ‘I want to break free’ in 1984, he could hardly imagine it would become an inspiring anthem for cows everywhere.

This week, a runaway cow made headlines around the world after he escaped a slaughterhouse and ran around Jamaica Avenue in New York city.

The brown and white bovine was scheduled to be killed on Friday after police captured him and returned him to his home at Archer Halal Live Poultry and Meat Market.

However, animal-lover Mike Stura stepped in and adopted the cow, later renaming him after the lead singer of Queen.

Freddie Mercury is now living in Skylands Animal Sanctuary & Rescue, where, according to Stura, he will enjoy “a life of leisure” alongside “cow friends”.
