This inspiring image of a woman being helped across the finish line at the Rodes City Run in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday morning by a police officer has gone viral on Reddit.

In it, Lieutenant Aubrey Gregory is helping Asia Ford complete the 10k (six mile) race.

Saturday was Ford's first 10k and she began to feel sick after the fourth mile. That's when Lieutenant Gregory came in.

"He asked me if I wanted to stop and I was like, 'No,' we have two more miles to go," Ford told Whas11.

Ford began a weight loss programme after her then husband lost a limb to diabetes - and when her children got "scared" everytime she went to the doctor. At her heaviest, she was 474 pounds, or 33.8 stone.

Writing on Facebook after the event, Ford said she had been inundated with messages of support adding: "I thank God for you all and the officer who is my Angel."

For his part, Gregory said he helped Ford after spotting her struggle from his car. "[I thought] I'm not going to let her quit, so I got out and she immediately grabbed my hand," he said.

"When I watched her approach [the finish line] and I started to hear people scream and I let her go right there before the end and to see her raise her hands, there aren't words to express the way I felt seeing her be successful."
