Why Malala Yousafzai might have to turn down a place at Oxford University

TL;DR: It rains too much

Being a Nobel Peace Prize winner, straight-A student and global champion of education and human rights, it's fair to say Malala Yousafzai has a fair pick of the world's leading universities.

After receiving her GCSE results from her school in Birmingham, the Pakistani-born student, who survived a Taliban attack in 2012, is deciding between Oxford in the UK and Stanford in the US where it is believed she hopes to study politics, philosophy and economics (or its Stanford variant).

After Malala was shown around the Stanford University campus in California, her father told the Guardian:

They have 300 days of sun out of 365 days, which is a rare phenomenon in the UK. Three hundred days of sun makes a difference.

Seems fair enough to us.
