Twelve pictures of David Cameron nodding, pointing and looking earnest in flooded areas

David Cameron visited York on 28 December to assess the damage caused by the severe flooding which has affected areas of North England and Wales.

It's not his first visit to a flooded area, and it probably won't be his last.

The coalition government cut funding to the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs for flood defences by 15 per cent in the 2010 Autumn Statement, to £573 million.

A 2014 House of Commons briefing paper estimated that flood damage costs the UK £1.1 billion a year.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph report that the prime minister wore £13 wellies to York as he did to Somerset in 2014, not his pair of Hunter's (which retail in the region of £100), to avoid appearing "too posh" - as a 2014 biography put it.
